Day 3 : 29 Under 30. A ride to 29 state capitals and 5 out of 7 Union Territories of India.

Day 3:

Plan: Bhubaneshwar-Raipur-Sambalpur

Kms Planned: 825

Today I got up at 6:00 as I was a little tired yesterday being the second day. I then gave my bike a wash as the skies were looking clear and the bike was too dirty with muck. Am sure you remember the photograph of the saddle bag I shared yesterday. Luckily the serviced apartment I stayed had a hosepipe and a tap in the parking area so I quickly gave her a shower, freshened up and started packing my luggage. To my luck, as I switched on the engine, the sun vanished and the dark clouds started spreading their tentacles.

Long way to go

I had messaged HiVayKing Mr. H  V Kumar seeking the best route to reach Raipur from Bhubaneshwar. Took the route suggested by him.

As it was about 7:30 and I had to do about 830 odd kms, I started off from the serviced apartment. Maybe I had just reached the outskirts of Bhubaneshwar, it started raining like cats and dogs. I was ready for this downpour with my rain wear on my riding gear so I rode on towards Cuttak.  The heavy rains continued till Angul after which there was light to medium drizzle which slowed me down to a large extent.

I had planned for an early lunch. I had realized that keeping light on the tummy during riding is best. The diet during most part of the rides planned was A tea in the morning, Early Lunch by about 11-11:30 & then reach destination & hog at night. But the rains and the single road had slowed me down so much that by the time I covered 250 kms, it was almost 2:30 pm. I stopped for Lunch as I was getting too hungry as I had skipped breakfast hoping to have an early lunch.

Grey Stallion Staring at me hogging.

By the time I hit Sambalpur, it was almost 4:00 pm. Again the rain had turned into drizzles so I wanted to cover up for lost time. I continued non stop after lunch. The Sambalpur to Ranchi Stretch took me about 4 hours as the rain was more of a drizzle and the roads were wide.

Somewhere on way from Sambalpur to Raipur

I finally reached Raipur by about 8:30. Today again I stopped outside the city to have dinner before I went to the Hotel to retire for the day.

As I had late lunch at about 4:00pm I ate just Phulkas with Dal

I had intended to ride back to Sambalpur but as I reached quite late, I decided against it and planned to spend the night at Raipur.

A small video of Day 3: https://youtu.be/u4F9sQ9sRuI

Road conditions: The roads were amazing with very little bad patches where the road was completely nonexistent (But that was just about 20 kms in total). For 300 kms, Till Sambalpur the road was one lane. After Sambalpur, the road was amazing till Raipur wide four lane road.

What caused the delay: Rain, rain & rain

Kms Done: 549 kms
