Day 11 : Mizoram House for ILP then Silchar-Aizwal.
Day 11:
Mizoram House for ILP
Silchar-Aizwal-Silchar
Kms Planned: 468 kms.
Today I was up early as yesterday I
wasted half a day as I did not get ILP for Mizoram, praying that
Silchar Thumpers help me to get the ILP ASAP. Finally at about 9:00
am Robin Singha came to my hotel room and we went took off to Mizoram
House in Silchar. We reached Mizoram house by about 9:15. The traffic
was huge and roads were pathetic in Silchar.
We finally did the paperwork and asked
how soon we could get the permit. I thanked Robin & he left for
his work. The lady there asked me to come by 2:00 pm. The paperwork
was nothing much its just a document with name, permanent address,
reason for visit & Signature. Other things required are a
passport size photograph & a permanent address proof.
I went back to my hotel and took some
rest and packed all luggage and came back to Mizoram House by 2:00 pm
. To my dismay, the lady at the counter searched for my form for
about 5 minutes & was unable to find it. She searched almost all
the desks for about 20 minutes before realizing that the form had
gone to higher ups for signature. So finally the form landed in my
hand by 2:45. PM. As I did not want to waste even a minute more, I
set off towards Aizwal.
The roads till Mizoram Border were pathetic
the least to say. Silchar to Saiphai (Entry point of Mizoram) was 57
kms. Trust me it took me 2 hours 15 minutes to do this stretch. By
about 6:15 I entered Mizoram. It was damn foggy and drizzling. I
could see fog rising from the tarred surface of the road. Visiblity
was almost 'ZERO'.
Do I look high? Mizoram is a dry state so its riding which gets me high.
Fog with drizzle can ride you nuts.
Luckily the roads were good except for
2 small patches of 100 meters each which was knee deep slush. At one
such place, I got struck and behind me there was an Army ambulance
which was carrying a martyred soldier home. They got down and helped
me get out off the mess. I thanked them and my heart sank for the
family of the soldier who lost his life for India.
I finally reached Aizwal by about 9:30
PM. On the outskirts it started raining heavily so I topped by a
Nepali food shop & ate whatever they could spare me as it was
almost closed. I then ate it and reached Aizwal by 10:00 pm. I called
up Rcho & he was stuck in something so he sent Fela Lana Jr. on
his behalf. Fela was a seet guy, he helped me locate my hotel and
helped me check in. I was dripping water everywhere. I said good bye
as I first wanted to jump out of wetness and put the stuff for drying
in front of the fan. If someone would have seen me they would think
what a mad man he is. The whole place was freezing and I was
switching on the fan.
I took a hot shower and jumped into bed
cursing British Empire & Government of India & all those who
could have but did not do anything to abolish ILP, with an alarm at 5
as I wanted to start early and reach Imphal through Jiribam which was
suppose to be a NO ROAD TERRAIN.
